Your Turn Girl Remixes – Various Artists
Culprit

One of the tidiest labels to emerge in recent years, LA based slo-mo and sultry house outfit Culprit have been bringing the heat with various great EPs from M A N I K, Lee Foss and more in the last couple of years. This time they offer up a remix package that re-invents Foss’ ubiquitous hits ‘Your Turn Girl’ and ‘Pyramid Scheme’ at the hands of Frenchmen Seuil, Anthony Collins, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky.
First up, Shonky and Dyed maintain the sense of subdued euphoria and allow their version of ‘Your Turn Girl’ to bump firmer than the original, but still with the same traces of female vocal and spring-day like freshness. Typical for this label, these guys and Foss himself is the importance of the groove here, and it’s one that never allows you to stop wiggling.
Next effort ‘Pyramid Girl’ is ostensibly a whole new track made from parts of the two aforementioned efforts. It emerges from gentle chords and a simple kick and hi-hat combo into a melancholic, balanced-on-a-knife-edge piece of delicate house that threatens to boil over but never really does: the tease is in the chase of this masterfully crafted effort.
Closing things out is micro-house man Seuil, with his colourful re-working of ‘Things Fall Apart’. Tumbling, scuffed kicks and beats pad out the rhythm whilst snatches of chords fade in and out of focus as you’re lulled into a semi-awake state of head nodding and hip-swaying.
Overall, youre unlikely to prefer these to the originals, but if those have become all too obvious to play out, these alluring re-works offer a fresh perspective on things that will likely do just as much damage on a dancefloor.
